The Rootstown High School boys soccer team’s thrilling 1-0 district-championship victory over Kirtland on Saturday also included some history.
The win was the 250th at Rootstown for head coach Charlie Voth during his 25-year career with the Rovers.
Voth is the winningest coach in Portage County boys soccer history.

Three different teams celebrated district championships last week: Aurora volleyball, Rootstown boys soccer and Aurora boys soccer.
The Aurora volleyball team captured the program’s first-ever district championship on Thursday.
The Greenmen defeated Padua Franciscan, 3-1, to earn a berth to the regional semifinal.
Aurora will face Keston on Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. at Mentor High School.
The Rootstown boys soccer team won a Division V district championship on Saturday by defeating Kirtland 1-0.
It is the program’s fifth district title and second consecutive.
Next up will be a regional semifinal matchup against Champion on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Parma High School’s Byers Field.
The Rovers’ Zach Pastor scored the lone goal of the contest in the 16th minute (24:26) from a low cross after a beautiful give-and-go on the wing from Jacob Sturm and Tycho Smolk.
The Aurora boys soccer team won a Division III district championship on Saturday.
The Greenmen dominated Hoban, 6-1, to run the program’s unbeaten streak to 19 games.
Jordan West led the way with a hat trick, while Chris Savukas, Cam Gentille and Kam Warnke all had a goal each for the Greenmen.
Next up for Aurora is its regional semifinal vs. Canfield on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Twinsburg High School.
The Windham Bombers youth junior varsity football team won the Trumbull County Super Bowl championship on Sunday.
The Bombers defeated Newton Falls, 18-0, in a game played at the Mathews High School’s Booster Field.
The Crestwood Red Devils youth mighty mites football team won the Northeast Ohio Youth Football League Super Bowl championship on Sunday.
The Red Devils defeated Rootstown, 20-0, in a rain-filled game that was played at Field High School’s Kenneth Lohr Stadium.
The Rootstown Rovers youth varsity football team won the Northeast Ohio Youth Football League Super Bowl championship on Sunday.
The Rovers defeated Mogadore, 8-0, in a tight game played at Field High School’s Kenneth Lohr Stadium.
The Garfield G-Men youth junior varsity football team won the Northeast Ohio Youth Football League Super Bowl championship on Sunday.
The G-Men defeated Rootstown, 47-6, in a game played in the rain and hosted at Field High School’s Kenneth Lohr Stadium.
The Kent youth varsity football team advanced to the Ohio Gridiron League championship game with a 21-8 victory over the Kenmore Cardinals on Saturday.
The title game will be played on Saturday (Nov. 1) at Copley High School. The kickoff time has yet to be announced, with Kent scheduled to play Highland (9-0).
The Rough Riders, who are coached by John Bell, improved to 9-0 on the season and are the No. 1 seed of the tournament. They moved into the championship game for the third consecutive season and have compiled a 28-1 overall record during that span.

The Rootstown High School boys cross country team captured the program’s first district championship since 1987 on Saturday.
The Rovers, running out of Division IV GlenOak course, finished with 63 team points.
Top runners included:
Streetsboro High School captains Kenzie McIntosh, Cooper Richmond, Arthur Scott, Olivia Willard and Hazel Schoenherr delivered 200 stuffed animals to Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital on Wednesday.
It is the 15th consecutive year that the school delivered to the hospital.
