THREE-WAY TIE AT THE TOP FOR MVAC GRAY DIVISION
The Southeast Pirates concluded their biggest week of golf for the season as they beat LaBrae 153 to 167 on Thursday.
The victory finds Southeast, LaBrae and Brookfield boys teams in a three-way tie at the top of the conference going into the MVAC Tournament on Wednesday.
As he has done all season, James Morgan was the best for the Pirates and the match medalist, carding a 2-under-par 34 on his home course, Olde Dutch Mill.
Consistency has been the key to the Pirates this season as freshman Owen Dombroski added a 1-over-par 37 to the home team score, and Alex Peelish and Cole Bruno each firing 41s.
Austin Rowe led the charge for LaBrae, carding a 37.
Southeast is 11-2 and LaBrae is 12-2. They are tied with Brookfield 11-2 in the MVAC.
“This was a must win for us and we went out and executed in stellar fashion,” said Mike Jenior, coach of the Pirates. “I am so proud of this group. They are playing with such confidence and we are flexing our depth.”
ROCKETS WIN THEIR 15TH MATCH
The Streetsboro boys are finding the Fairways at Twin Lakes in Kent a great place to call home as the boys team has won 15 matches this season to only one loss.
Their 15th win was earned by topping the Ravenna Ravens 172 to 254.
Brett Epple easily earned match medalist, firing a 37 on the Par 35 fairways of Twin Lakes. Evan Reger fired a 44, Dan Marcini a 45 and Bryce Pocek and Brody Sanford a 46 each for the Rockets victory.
Ravenna’s best was a 58 fired by Ayden Surber.
ROVERS SWEEP TRIMATCH
Rootstown’s girls took their game on the road to Edgewater Golf Club to take on United and East Canton and swept the trimatch.
The Rovers fired a 179, including medalist Morgan Giebel carding 42, Anna Drago 43, Ava Miller 44 and Ella Derr 50.
Best score fired by the Rovers’ opponents was Emma Murphy of United 43.
SOUTHEAST PERFECT SO FAR THIS SEASON
The Southeast girls continued their undefeated streak, earning their 15th match victory with a win over Champion 177-192 at Bristolwood Golf Course in Bloomfield.
Sophomores Sammy Morgan and Jenni Mix led the team, as Morgan fired a 3-over-par 39 and Mix a 44.
Jessi Mix added a 46and Layna Tittel a 47 on the way to the solid win for the Pirates, now 13-0 in the MVAC.
