It is a huge week for high school varsity golf teams.

Almost every team in Portage County is competing in conference championships this week and teams are traveling all around Northeast Ohio.

From Rootstown boys at Fowler’s Mill in the CVC, to the Rootstown girls at Punderson and the teams in the MVAC, both boys and girls, traveling to Salem Hill Golf Club.

Windmill Lakes, Good Park and Pine Valley are all hosting tournaments this week.

By the end of the week, in almost every conference, champions will be crowned and players will know if they receive individual honors in the leagues they compete.

It doesn’t get more exciting than that.

SAMMY MORGAN MEDALIST AT SALEM HILLS

The Mahoning County Girls Golf Classic was competed at Salem Hills Golf Club in Salem on Saturday with 11 teams competing.

The Southeast Pirates earned second place (352) — only seven strokes shy of champion Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin.

Sophomore Sammy Morgan fired an outstanding even-par 72 and now holds the Southeast girls golf school record for 18 holes.

The rest of the team, pushing the Pirates to second place at the tournament included Jenni Mix 93, Aubree Varga 93, Emily Morrison 94 and Jessi Mix 99.

Southeast currently sits atop of the Mahoning Valley Athletic with a perfect 13-0 and are headed to the MVAC Tournament at Salem Hill on Wednesday.
