TEAM OUTLOOK

“We do not have the numbers for a full team, but the quality of wrestling out of our three girls is great,” head coach Duane Funk said.

THE LINEUP

Sophomore Layla Funk: She had a great freshman year that included 30 wins.

“She is working hard to get better every day, with a goal to join Kai and MJ in Columbus.”

Senior Kai Gaetjens: She is a two-time state-placer, who fell just short last year of getting to Columbus after finishing fifth in the program’s very challenging district.

“Kai has worked hard over the summer and is continuing to work hard to get back down to Columbus. She will hit 100 wins early this season.”

Senior Mackenzie “MJ” Shellenbarger: Like Gaetjens, she just missed a return trip to Columbus by placing fifth in a tough district draw. She was a state-placer as a sophomore. She missed her entire freshman year to an injury, but will also be pushing toward 100 wins this year.
