
The Kent Roosevelt boys golf team competed at the Nordonia Classic on Tuesday.

Boys teams from across Northeast Ohio gathered at Good Park Golf Course in Akron for the annual Northeast Ohio Invitational hosted by the Springfield Spartans.
When the final scores were tabulated, the scoreboard looked very familiar to Portage Trail Conference fans.

The top-three teams, Warren JFK (309), Mogadore (329) and Southeast (332), were all members of the PTC before it folded. The teams not only enjoyed seeing each other again, but are very competitive across the golf competitions in 2025.
Leading the way for Lake Center was Jacob Rainieri, a resident of Mogadore, earning medalist honors, firing a 2-over-par 73.
Andrew Lapolla and Henry Phillips of JFK carded 74 and 75, respectively, as Southeast’s Cole Bruno (75) tied for third individual honors and James Morgan (76) in the top four. While the Wildcats were not in the top five individually, they still earned the runner-up of the competition with consistent play from teammates. Jude Thiry took the lead for Mogadore (78), with Tyler Pendergast (79), Brock Thiry (83) and Blake Waterhouse (89) bringing home the second-place finish.
Field’s Jayden Huskins (88) and Ravenna’s Aydan Surber (101) were the best on the additional local teams competing.
Rootstown welcomed Orange for a Cuyahoga Valley Conference match to Sunny Hill Golf Course in Brimfield as Orange won the match 167 to 171.
Despite the loss, Rootstown’s Ava Miller (39) and Chloe Gardner (42) each shot their personal best during the contest.
“I am very proud of all of these young ladies,” said Matt Just, coach of the Rovers.
“We were just short of pulling out the victory.”
The Rootstown boys varsity competed against Cuyahoga Falls at Sunny Hill Golf Course in Brimfield as the Rovers earned their third straight victory of the season.
Rootstown was led by Nathan Waesch, firing a 3-over-par 38 on the Par-35 fairways of Sunny Hill followed by Caleb Stevens 42, Sam Klem 44 and Troy Kopac 45.
Cuyahoga Falls best was carded by Connor Stevens 45.
The Nordonia Classic welcomed teams to Ellsworth Meadows in Hudson each season as both Aurora and Kent Roosevelt finished solid among the boys teams.
The Greenmen finished fourth and the Rough Riders sixth in the event that was filled with 20 teams.
Aurora’s Brady Allenick fired a 77 and Kent’s Jax Turner a 79 to lead both teams to the top-10 finish.
The Streetsboro Rockets also joined the tournament as Dom Marcini carded an 84 for the team landing in 15th place.

Southeast’s Aubree Varga helped move the Pirates to their third straight win to start the season.
The Southeast Pirates continued their excellence this season, topping McDonald 176 to 220 at Mahoning Country Club in Youngstown.
The victory extends the Pirates undefeated record to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the MVAC. Aubree Varga fired a 43 on the Par 35 golf course, with Samantha Morgan and Jessi Mix and Layna Tittel adding 44s for the consistent scoring of the winning team.
